Professor Paal is Full Professor for Law and Regulation of the Digital Transformation at the School of Social Sciences and Technology, Department of Governance at the Technical University of Munich.
In October 2023, Professor Paal was appointed to the Technical University of Munich as part of a so-called “lighthouse” procedure. Previously, he held the Chair of Data, Media and Information Law and Director of the Institute for Media and Information Law at the University of Freiburg (2009-2021) and the Chair of Civil Law and Information Law, Data and Media Law and Director of the Institute for Media Law, Data Law and Digitization at the University of Leipzig (2021-2023). He was Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Freiburg (2016-2018) and Dean of Studies (2012-2014).
Professor Paal has successfully supervised around 50 dissertation procedures and two habilitation procedures.
